High School Internship Program
In Partnership with Oakstone Academy Palm Beach
As a former science teacher at Oakstone Academy Palm Beach, our founder customed an inclusive internship program to support and empower high school students on the autism and ADHD spectrum. A variety of visual and communication accommodations assist students as they develop job skills to help transition into a career after graduation. OSAPB teachers assist students through the application and interview process.
A SCK supervisor guides interns through our training program and provides ongoing support and positive reinforcement with each virtual project. Along with the skills students learn, working with us, we provide a resume and cover letter template, letter of recommendation, job interview practice prompts, job coaching and networking opportunities.

“After being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, it was at first frustrating reflecting on my academic and career history. There were countless examples of struggling to complete work on time, organizing materials, remembering due dates, being over stimulated and having difficulties controlling my emotions. I excelled with creative and challenging projects and would many times cry in frustration at the simple tasks most people do with ease.
I was heartbroken pausing STEAM City during the COVID pandemic, and I started teaching fulltime again. The opportunity to work with students on and off the spectrum in an inclusive environment was a beautiful and priceless experience. I feel in love with all of the students and learned about their incredible superpowers. Observing different behaviors sparked this lightbulb and led to me seeing a specialist for a diagnosis and treatment for my ADHD.
Even before I relaunched STEAM City Kids, I knew I had to create an internship program that is accommodating for students on the autism and ADHD spectrum. After organizing mock interviews with high school students at the end of my last school year, I realized the application and interviewing has to be a part of the process as real world practice. I am thrilled to launch the internship program and so excited to guide students along as additional job responsibilities are added to the position.
